The counselors are so friendly and made my kiddo feel welcome. YMCA summer camp has their act together and run a smooth operation. Very helpful, supportive and most importantly my kid loves it! Will definitely return.
Great leadership and staff. Positive environment, engaging program, and good sense of community.
Friendly, helpful service. Kids love it.
The Spears YMCA is a family friendly facility with helpful and friendly staff, plenty of cardio and resistance machines, a pool, and a recently renovated sauna. The Spears YMCA provides a multitude of activities for all ages, and is a valued community resource.
Everyone at the Y from the front desk to the instructors is friendly and helpful. I'm a senior citizen who enjoys taking Silver Sneakers classes, swim classes, and currently doing a Tai Chi class..
Friendly staff and lots of workout options
Thank you. The Y team has been doing a much better job keeping pickleball scheduling. In the past players have been rude to me, my wife, and son on several occasions when we informed players that the gym opens for other activities at 3. Instead of being berated and yelled at by some pickleball players, we now go to the front desk and inform them. Overall, the Y Team has recently been much more proactive with maintaining the schedules and are coming in to end pickleball more consistently without prompt.
The Y soccer league was also an amazing experience for us. Sarah was our coach and now my son is passionate about soccer camps and leagues at the Y.
Thank you. Please continue and if so y’all will be 10s.
The class is so helpful for my balance & muscle strength. Terry is a great instructor. Only dissatisfied that pool has had problems for so long. I really count on the pool for my RA.
Very spacious, love the multiple basketball courts! Clean, helpful staff
I enjoy the well-maintained facility and equipment, the acknowledgment from staff as you enter the Y, spin class for Parkinson's, and the Y's commitment to the mission.
I love the Spears Y, but disappointed in pool/sauna being closed - I know of not in anyone’s control but it is frustrating and there’s a lack of communication. And, it was closed for a long period when renovating the sauna - and that doesn’t feel that long ago.
I’ve only been to one exercise class and I enjoyed it very much. The girl leading the class did an outstanding job. It was fun and productive and I’m coming back today. I hope she’s going to be there.
I think my child would need several sessions of all stages to be able to swim independently. The parents had to sit far away, so we couldn't take "homework" home to practice with them. The sessions were too short, and too many children. i will probably spend money on private lessons that work better with my schedule.
I participate in a water aerobics class three times a week and have done so for over three years. It's helped.
The girls were given very little 1:1 attention. They were placed in a group with kids several years older than them and then asked repeat the course. Very disappointed for the money we spent.
I am a member of the Tai Chi class and have been since it first started several years ago. The instructor, Michele Walker is excellent. Her emphasis on balance and exercising the mind are exactly what I wanted in a wellness class.
I love the deep water class and open swim at the pool, but it's hard to count on it when the pool is closed for weeks at a time. And I also don't understand why there is a fee for water fitness classes. Forsyth County doesn't charge extra to take them.
Wait times for equipment can take awhile
Friendly staff, clean facility- enjoy this facility in several areas.
taking classes
teach equipment sharing
Staff is
It seems that the pool area is too often unusable and closed. More assistance should be offered to those working out on the machines.
My
Spears has so much to offer the community. So many options for parents, young adults, kids. There's something for everyone.
I like the social aspect of being in the pool with other folks & it’s great exercise.
Pool closed for over a week in the first month we joined.
When gym equipment needs repair it can go as long as 3 months before it’s handled. Swim lanes are often monopolized by grade school teams during peak demand hours, forcing premium paying customers to double up in lanes if there are any available. Then you are only allowed 30 min.
I like the facility and staff. Wish pickleball on Sundays got more courts.
Staff is great
The many walls in the cardio weight room make it feel very small and cramped.
Everyone is always friendly when I come in and the facilities are always clean and well kept.
Friendly and helpful staff, lots of options
I love the community created by both staff and patrons. I also think it’s a great value for money. You wont get the variety of offerings AND a social network at a regular gym.
The treadmills with the tv’s are clearly a hot ticket item because they are always full and people wait for them and I’m guessing because of all the use they are many times broken and do not work. Seems like that would be something you would need to invest in.
A hot tub and steam room would be nice.
I think the Body Pump Heavy classes should be listed as such since the format, pace, and emphasis is quite different from the regular Body Pump class. I thought they were being labeled separately for a while, but for the class I attended today there was no warning/differentiation in the posted online or paper schedule that it would be a Body Pump Heavy class. I have the impression that a lot of people like the Body Pump Heavy class, but I would have opted to go to Body Pump on Friday or at the later Sat class if I had known ahead of time that the 7 a.m. class would be Body Pump Heavy.
The Coaches were great and the team had a great season.
I joined for the gym. It is extremely crowded which is expected at certain times of the day. The number of teenagers and their habit of working out in large groups together makes maneuvering the crowds difficult. When there is 3 or 4 together and they camp around a piece of equipment, you’ll never be able to use it. They mostly chat and waste time. It’s just being teenagers. Their lack of awareness of their surroundings can be frustrating. It’s probably going to lead me to find another gym.
My daughter is shy and anxious but had a great time with her instructor Layla and enjoyed building upon her swimming skills. The pool and locker rooms were always clean and comfortable.
I think it is a great shame you have to pay extra for the pool classes, when you already have to pay for membership. Also, it is very hard to find out about classes that take place in the yoga studio, like tai chi, they are not shown on the app as being on.
more pratices and games of soccer and basketball for the kids would be great
Have more parking spaces
The women’s locker room floor never gets clean. I’m sure it is washed, but the stuck on dirt stays behind.
The shower drains nearly always have built up hair in them.
The lockers in the women’s area are dirty on top of them. Not everyone is tall enough to see it, but if you can, it’s not an appealing view.
Friendly staff and Daniel is always available
We loved our coach!
Continual problems with the pool climate
Locker rooms are often very dirty, especially the showers, pool has unbearable chlorine smell, and schedules in app are frequently incorrect.
I love the Zumb, ZumbLift, BodyPump and Pickle Ball there. My fav Zumba instructors are Karen and Christy. I love the Kids Zone. I’m really happy with my experience there. My kids love the pool. Membership is too expensive, but it’s not expensive adding kids. Overall, I’m so glad I joined the Y. I highly recommend it. Oh, my daughter also plays soccer there. So yes, the Y really is so family-friendly and community-driven. Nick is great too. He’s always helpful and responsive.
Friendly staff
Ease of registration and financial assistance.
