Upstairs can get stinky. The fans blow stinky sweat air around.
Love the Y and like working out with other people that also love this Y! The front desk staff are wonderful - very welcoming and take time to get to know you. I prefer some of the older equipment pieces over newer version at the downtown from an ergonomic workout perspective. Could use some sprucing up around the edges. Downtown location would benefit from the lobby a bit more welcoming...perhaps add round tables and chairs, some plants, lighting just a tad brighter,, low-volume music? Perhaps prioritize more outgoing staff for that important front desk role, reminding members they've just come through the doors of a Y :)
There are so many classes to choose from (something for everyone and every age), and all the ones I've tried have been great.
The equipment hasn’t been updated (especially superior) for example there isn’t an actual cycling bike like the ones in the cycling classes available in the main cardio areas. The classes are astronomical in pricing. Like $400 for a class per person. Like half that would be high but acceptable. This is someone who loves YMCA.
Get people working the front desk to be mindful of their demeanor. Ask instructor, Amy, to resist eye rolls.
Coffee is never made early morning these days like it used to, don’t have all the equipment recommended for workouts so need to improvise. But mostly the coffee, something I looked forward to my first 15 visits and they just stopped making it
Enjoy the variety of classes and use of gym equipment.
The Y works for we as I like the water
Aerobics to improve my balance, osteopenia and muscles!
I enjoy the folk who swim to improve their health.
Sacramento Central YMCA is more than just a place I exercise—it feesl like my community and a place where I feel comfortable, welcomed, and connected
Because I paid cash, the first month. Now if I return I pay 29.00
I love the water aerobics class and my friends I have developed they are my new family.
Updating the strength equipment and having more variety in strength equipment. Also the children's care area is quite small.
I like the services and convenience at the Y.
Lots
Old bench pads that were ripped and duct taped back together. No a/c in the cardio room
On summer days, its hard to run on the treadmill because the room is not cool enough and the treadmills are by the window getting all the heat from outside
More intermediate level exercise classes for seniors.
Instructors that are trained and focus on proper and safe body mechanics. Mohammed and Amy are excellent examples.
Have instructors stick to class size limits in the Studios. The gym being an exception.
Have more hand weights. Participants take 2 pair of different weights which limits availability.
Everything! Personnel are helpful and friendly. The facilities are well maintained. Communications of upcoming events and ways to participate are always well done.
I really like the convenience of the Y and love the Water Arthritis class - Pat is such a good coach!
More dance-based classes. Evening dance classes are difficult for women with families. Dinner time. And really, most people can’t eat right before a dance class.
The biggest reservation I have is the severely outdated gym equipment and lack of plates in the weight room. I prefer the Capital location for that reason only
Since I'm new (sort of) I asked the young lady at the front desk if she had time to give me a brief in service on how to operate the stationary bikes. She was wonderful! So kind, patient and helpful. I also was happy that it wasn't too crowded on the day/time I went which is always a plus. Thank you.
More open swim slots from 5pm to 8pm.
My feedback to you is my bringing a guest or potential new member to your facility would not be possible. For starters, the lobby is so uninviting. The interior is ridiculously old and shabby and what few chairs that are in the lobby seem like they came out of a fast food restaurant. That is, they are metal, bulletproof, uncomfortable and uninviting to the member.
The equipment room is also pretty dismal. The “equipment out of order” signs on the equipment never seem to get resolved. One of the machines has had a sign on it since 2025. As of yesterday there were signs on 3 machines. One since December.
Great staff. Everyone’s friendly. Substandard facility.
A lot of equipment too old, poor surface for pickleball and never anyone there for pickup basketball
Best place to meet people become wonderful friends!
The showers are open. i have to get the chairs in order to excercise in the gym and put them back. Are the teachers certified.
The cardio room is so hot and the weight room downstairs is nice and cool. Why is that and how can we get the cardio room to be the temperature of the weight room? Especially when it’s 100 degrees outside. It’s not safe to run on a treadmill when it’s 80+ degrees inside.
I love the strength training classes taught by Lily but I wish you had more of this type in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have voiced this request multiple times but nothing has come of it. The only increase I have seen is the small class that costs $400 dollars or so extra. Very disappointing.
The facility is not clean
Machines are old and sometimes broken for many weeks. There is also only one machine for certain exercises (pull down for example) so if it is down or being used you are out of luck.
The AC in the cardio room is either not working or inadequate so it is uncomfortably hot this summer.
Staff are nice
I love my local YMCA.
I would enjoy some water exercise classes in the morning.
Small cardio room with limited equipment; room also hot and stuffy. The studios were locked and unable to be used due to theft concerns.
We’ve been going for 16 and the staff have always been very responsive and competent.
The class schedule is not as appealing as it was last year
I love the Y! Great community.
I would, though, like to request a call from the new MGMT of the pool when that Aquatics Coordinator is appointed. The schedule online is not correct for the mornings that the US Navy has their new recruit test. Thx
Very friendly staff and all activities are great. I attened water aerobics in the evening. Instructor is excellent and class very beneficial to one's health.
Friendly, helpful staff. Lots of classes, equipment and options, including a pool.
I really the rigor and fun of Ilene’s water aerobics class!
All the classes offered are excellent and the instructors really work hard to make the classes the best for young and old. Been a member for years and a lot of improvements have been done. Hats off to all the staff.
Some equipment in the room with the bikes and stair steppers has been out of service for months. They really need to be replaced or repaired. Generally, the Y is a great place with great people.
Old facility, but clean. Friendly staff. Good parking. My husband and I go to aqua class twice a week. We love it.
I have answered this email before and you continue to send it to me. Are you actually reading it? I pay full price for my membership. 50.00 each month. My insurance does not pay for it. I’m not getting my money’s worth. The bathrooms are in bad shape. The pool is often closed and the instructor for the Thursday class in the gym is either very late or absent. There is a huge obnoxious fan in the gym that is too loud and has little benefit. Ihsve friends that I have met, but not quite sure it’s worth 50.00 a month. I would appreciate some feedback please.
Tía Kilpatrick is an excellent instructor. She understands people and has a world of experience that she freely shares with her students. Wish there were more people like her.
I enjoy the class I take there and the sense of community
I like the Sacramento Y overall but one slight difference stands out compared to the one I belonged to in another state is that when entering they used to greet members more, often even using first name or at least saying Hi or good morning. Acknowledging the individual is not always possible but it's nice. Most of the time they ignore you or are talking to each other or looking at a screen and the only acknowledgment of arriving is the beep of the scanner. Something else I would really like is if the treadmills had TV channel reception using earbuds. Very little reception....sometimes PBS but mostly just FOX which is definitely not of interest to me! It'd be great to get 3 main networks of NBC, CBS and ABC! Members are friendly and there is good variety of classes offered, especially like the active Pickleball group. The pool is great, just miss having a sauna.
I recommend all the time and I plan to continue.
I enjoy the group fitness classes, where I have met many people. I value the Y's emphasis on serving the whole community.
Would like to have more yoga classes
Pool is closed very otttfen. Lifegaurds are not friendly. Facility is old and worn out. People are not friendly
