Green Ladder Contractors is an owner operated general contractor based in Red Deer, Alberta, run by David Hutten with more than 30 years in construction.

Inside the house we renovate kitchens, bathrooms and basements, and take on whole home renovations: demolition, licensed plumbing and electrical rough-in, insulation and vapour barrier, drywall, flooring, tile, cabinets and finish carpentry, run as one project on one schedule. Structurally we frame detached garages, additions, load bearing alterations and basement framing, and we build custom sheds and workshops. Spring through fall we build outdoor living: custom decks and deck repair, fences and gates, pergolas and gazebos, paver and flagstone patios, walkways and steps, retaining walls, privacy screens, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits, hot tub surrounds, and low voltage landscape lighting.

Interior work runs year round. Outdoor builds wait for ground that is not frozen, which is why winter is the right time to design one.

What we spec is chosen for the freeze and thaw cycles here. Sonotube footings set below frost line, joists at 16 inches on centre, double rim joists, staggered blocking, joist tape over every joist top, cut-end sealer on field cuts, GRK structural screws and Simpson Strong-Tie hangers sized to the joist. Inside, walls are framed off the concrete, insulated and run with a continuous vapour barrier sized for Alberta. We build in Eva-Last, TimberTech and TruNorth composite, in cedar, and in pressure treated lumber.

Outdoor builds start with a full 3D design and the footing layout, so you can see the build before a board is cut, and the design fee is credited back at contract signing. Where a build needs a permit, the homeowner is the applicant in most Alberta municipalities and we support the whole process: which permits apply, what goes with the application, and the work ready at each inspection. If the city asks for engineered drawings, we work alongside the engineer.

Insured and WCB certified, with a two year workmanship warranty on everything we build apart from patios, walkways and lighting, which carry one year.
