One of the recumbent bikes has been out of order for some time. Otherwise, things are great!
The only thing I would like back is adult swim, I have bad knees and I enjoyed open swim was until 9 and then from 9 to 9:45 was adult swimming only
I am coming from the perspective of a couple over 60 with no kids at home. The place is outdated, often things are not working . A secondary thing, during the Summer months schedules are more guided to lessons which is very good for families with children but not so for other members; nevertheless I appreciate that it is very important to do this for the children.
A very positive feel is that the staff and volunteers are very friendly and always try to help.
Staff makes all the difference
I go to swim. Cean water, good lifeguards and friendly folk who are exercising as I am. Frontdesk is responsive to my questions.
I would say likely in the sense that it is definitely worth the money spent! But there are somethings that could use improvements. I understand the facility is old so there isn't much to be done about some things but the locker rooms feel dirty sometimes and there's often a weird smell that I've heard is from the drains in the floor. I also notice that there is often times not paper towel in the dispensers and/or cleaner in the spray bottles. I typically go during the busy time around 5pm after work so that could factor into some of my answers. Overall though, the gym is great! It has what you need, it's rarely ever so busy that I have to wait for machines, and the staff and volunteers are all very friendly and helpful.
Pool and classes especially group Power
Gym is outdated. All equipment are very old need to get replaced.
I like to much
The staff make the Y. They are friendly, competent and welcoming.
I am glad that central Elgin is now part of the area. It made my daily swim cost go down from $16 to $3. Thank you for making that happen.
The men’s locker room is in terrible shape. Between the awful smell coming from the urinals and toilets to the old rusty lockers, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Y.
Although I love the gym the cost is prohibitive for a lot of folks who wouldn’t qualify for subsidy
I have been a member for 18 plus years. Throughout my time at the Y, the staff have been extremely kind, caring and compassionate.
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
You could add a couple more Peleton bikes, extend the hours to 10 or 11 pm during the week. I personally think the price of memberships are too high with our economy.
I enjoy the aqua fit programs.
I love the people that work there and there are so many options for getting health.
It is a vital part of our community. A great place to get fit and meet people.
Cleanliness in the Ladies Changeroom especially after aquafit and the vents in the ceiling
The staff (front desk) and all other areas are always very helpful and courteous to the public. My grandchildren have grown up there and continue to grow with their assistance in swimming, dance and other gym activities. Thank you !
Most friendly and helpful staff. Always a good morning and a have a great day. Great instructors who love their jobs.
We have been without proper entrance to pool for 8 weeks, the hot tub is always closed, the elevator is broken ,to named a few. Totally unacceptable not happy at all
Updates locker rooms and showers
Membership is expensive and something always seems to be out of order.
The aquafit is a life saver for me. With health issues the water is the only exercise I can go at a faster pace. I feel so much better when the class is finished. I am able to move around more freely throughout the day.
I only recently rediscovered the group classes at the Y. I’ve been sampling as many as I can and Groove and TRX with Diane are my particular favourites.
I only go to the Y for the Aqua Fit call and our instructor is Ange or Angie and she is amazing. She is the reason I was willing to pay almost $100.00 a month for the next 2 months until the St Thomas pool closes and I can go back to using my card for 10 sessions for $35.00. I must saw that this past Tuesday when I arrived for our pool session that a sign was up where Iearned that the I could not use my card so I had to pay $15.00 to attend class that day of which I only got in about 32 minutes of swim time as the pool lady at reception was so busy with a client on the phone and people to deal with at the counter like myself I had not a clue how much a Y membership. Today I had a call back about membership so I took it for 2 months, however I was not happy that I had to pay $15.00 for my short class. That notice should have been up last week where we could have seen it about the change this week and had time to ask about the membership. It had nothing to do with the lady at the reception as she was beyond busy.
Flexibility of hours for the pool. Pleasant empliyees
Always a good Experience. Matthew is very helpful on the front desk. Pleasant atmosphere to work out.
I joined the Y for the aquafit classes. The faculty is well maintained and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Package price for passes is very reasonable.
Staff are uniformly welcoming and helpful. Facility is clean with good equipment and amenities. Price is very reasonable for what is offered. And you are supporting a community institution as you do so
Too expensive.
The Central Elgin swim only deal.
Really enjoy the aqua fit. Instructors are great. Ideally would love the water a little warmer.
Looking forward to trying some other classes.
The Y used to be very rigid in how the pool schedules did not fit my own, however the pool is now available during my hours. Now and again, a shut down occurs and I understand that. I just would like to see you get rid of the slow, medimk and fast signs at the end of the lane. They are quite discriminatory and some of the Y members use that to their advantage to push people around.
there is never anyone working in the weights area. I would like to be able to ask someone a question about equiptment and such
The facility itself needs to be completely renovated, updated or replaced. Every single time I visit something is not working. Yesterday it was the water temperature in the showers in the Family Change Room. The water was too hot to shower in. The water fountain in the hallway near the Family Change Room is out of order. The stairs into the pool were missing. It is embarrassing. I would be very hesitant to recommend the St Thomas YMCA. The staff are awesome. I was disappointed to learn Thursday evening yoga will not continue through the summer.
The majority of Aquafit Classes are terrific.
Just bought an aquapass and have been to 2 classes so far. I enjoyed both classes & looking forward to trying more.
Friendly and clean facilities, also reasonably priced
I think the Y is great but the reason for an 8 is the price. Many of my friends would not spend the money or could not afford to get a membership. I would like more classes but understand getting instructors is a challenge.
The change rooms are really cramped. Possibly because there are 4 of them. It’s hard to change after aquafit with so little room.
I love the fact I can swim at the why for a reasonable fee
9
Have more lane swim times
I love the YMCA. Always have been a member and the staff are excellent. The classes are fun and you meet great people there.
make hours more forgiving
I mostly use the pool, always clean and lots of help. Aqua fit very well run too.
I love the aqua fitness class. Plus everyone is so friendly
